It can feel like hell on Earth when you’ve got a lingering cold, and you’ve got a house full of children. But imagine if you are a busy mum, and you’ve got something even worse than the common cold, how is it even possible to look after your children when you can’t even look after yourself? For those that have never been in this situation let’s break it down into some important situations and how you can overcome them.
Feeling Sorry For Yourself!
It is usually the first (and last) thing you will feel when you’re looking after a house full of children, and you’re trying to keep on top of the laundry and every little task. For any new mum, it’s not a nice feeling having to try and push through when you feel like death warmed up. The one thing that can get you through this is your frame of mind. While you can spend a whole day feeling sorry for yourself, it’s better for you to actually suck it up and get on with it because you’re not going to be able to accomplish everything you need to accomplish by feeling this way! It sounds very old school and something your grandparents would say, but keep calm and carry on! Make a cup of tea, take a deep breath, and do what you can, little and often. Not too much that you run yourself ragged but just enough for you to be busy, so you don’t have time to dwell on how you’re feeling.
Make Sure You’re Medicated
It’s a mammoth task, so you need to treat it accordingly. Pushing through is possible if you have the right tools at your disposal, and these can include vitamin C, zinc, and plenty of antioxidant containing foods. Avoid sugar at all costs because you may think that it’s going to give you that energy you need, however, the sugar crash will not work in your favour later on in the day!
Know When To Call For (Medical) Help
This is the worst case scenario if all else fails, and it can be very tempting to hit the old Google button if you feel like you can’t do anymore. But this can result in you having every illness under the sun, and it doesn’t do your frame of mind any favours either because a few simple clicks onto various websites could list a wealth of life-threatening diseases, all of which you are unlikely to have! The best option if you are really unsure is just to call your GP, but there is an Online Dr app where you can consult with a GP over the phone where you can discuss the symptoms face to face. So, there is no stress of having to wait for the doctor to call back from your local surgery. It can be helpful to Google symptoms but be wary about over Googling because it won’t do you any good.
If you really aren’t feeling good, then you need to know when to say that you can’t do anymore and ask for help. Yes, it is important that the ironing is done, but remember that you cannot be Supermum all of the time! So ask for help from a relative or your partner.
