First impressions really do count, especially when it comes to your property, so if you’ve been spending all of your time and money in the inside of your home and the outside is looking a bit shabby, it might be time to change that by giving your home’s exterior some TLC.
Here are some simple things you can do to make the outside of your home as beautiful as the inside:
Repaint the House
Perhaps the most effective thing you can do to give your home a facelift is to paint the exterior walls and your entry doors. This shouldn’t take too long, and you can always get a professional I to take care of it if you like, but it will make your home look as good as new. Ideally, you should paint your exterior walls in a neutral colour like white, grey or cream, but when it comes to the front door, you can afford to be a bit bolder with reds, purples, and pinks if you like.
Get New Door Furniture
Once you’ve repainted the doors, adding new door furniture should your next step. Cheap letterboxes, door handles and post boxes tend to be low quality, and it shows, so check out the architectural ironmongery in your local area and purchase door furniture that is heavier, more stylised and in keeping with the look of your home. It’ll give the exterior a real lift without costing very much at all.
Let There be Light
If you don’t already have lights on each side of the front door, now is the time to add them. Not only will it help you get safely down the path to your front door when you’ve been out for the evening, but a couple of high-quality iron and glass lanterns will add a pleasing touch of class to your home’s exterior.
Window Boxes and Baskets
I think we can all agree that flowers are beautiful, so it makes sense that they would increase the prettiness of your home. So, get your drill out and install a couple of hanging baskets either side of the front and back doors and put up window boxes at least at the front of your property. Fill them with your favourite blooms and be sure to take care of them, watering and feeding them regularly, so that your home’s exterior always looks blooming beautiful.
Hire a Window Cleaner
If you don’t have a regular window cleaner, and you’re prone to leaving the windows untouched for long periods because you’re too busy to take care of them, it’s time to hire a professional because, no matter how beautiful you make your home’s exterior, if the windows are dirty, streaked and covered in bird poo, your house is always going to look shabby, from the outside at least.
Look After the Garden
Last, but most certainly not least, if you want your home to look good from the outside in, you’re going to have to put some effort into the garden. You don’t have to turn into Alan Titchmarsh overnight, but at least make an effort to mow the lawn regularly and plant a few pretty plants and flowers to make a good first impression.
