A few years ago a friend of mine gave birth and sent a Facebook event round to invite people to come and visit their new addition. I thought it was a brilliant idea.
Close family and friends were allowed to visit by appointment and then about a week later the family opened their door to their wider circle of friends for one day rather than have lots of little surprise visits. They then retreated into their new family bubble again to enjoy the rest of their maternity/paternity leave.
Myself and Gav are quite lucky that our family is quite understanding of this kind of policy too.
When our babies were born we had visitors on set days and everyone helped out. There’s been no running around making tea for 20 people, or worrying about feeding an unexpected visitor.
